These three cottages on approximately 9 acres of land have been almost 4 years in the making. The idea and passion for the cottages came from the late Dr. John Kats, our much loved and respected father, husband, brother, and dear friend.
The location itself started as nothing more than swamp, and wild blackberry bushes, with what appear to be circa 1940's automobile wrecks under the bushes. The block was purchased with no utilities, and limited access by car or on foot. Slowly the blackberry bushes were removed, the land cleaned up, and the boomerang shaped Lake was dug with the help of friendly neighbours. Most lakes of this size take half a year to a year to fill up naturally, however, to everyone's surprise it was overflowing with water within 4 weeks of being dug- such was the favourable location of the land.
Next, a specialist water locator found underground bore water a short distance beneath the ground. This water later turned out to be more than hard bore water, but was in fact mineral water from a spring under ground. This region of Victoria is, after all, the mineral water capital of Australia.
After several years of slow progress, building, much hard work by our builder, and difficult times for our family, the Cottages eventually took shape to become the buildings you are able to experience today. Unfortunately, Dr Kats passed away before he could see or enjoy them in this life.
We have only begun upon this adventure of providing you with such a service and facility, and to a certain extent we will be guided by your suggestions and ideas.
